Jayson Stark writes about Bronson Arroyo and how he is still on the market as of Jan 29th. Yes, that is kind of surprising, considering there is no more known quantity than Arroyo, and everyone needs pitchers, particularly those that can give you consistent innings.
Arroyo is not the only bit of quality left on the free agent market, despite the fact he is probably the best. The problem for him is that the teams really in need of competitive pitching have filled their rosters, and those teams not ready to compete hard in 2014 probably have their eyes set on players that become free agents after 2014, so a multi-year deal is tough to swallow.
Here is a look at the rest of the 2013 Free agent class- and you will see there are still quite a few talents that haven’t been plucked from the pile.
But Arroyo will not be forced to retire, just probably bring this number of years down from the three he was initially asking for.
