Lots of new faces are popping up in spring camps, and reporters are taking their time to get to know the new faces while they wait for the games to start. Remember, reporters still have column space to fill, and the new players and the up and comers all fill that void.
Zach Greinke, one of the Dodgers big acquisitions, met with reporters yesterday to talk about his social anxiety disorder. Greinke doesn’t like talking with reporters, and he said told them he would only answer questions once, as a courtesy during this get to know you process. This Bill Plunkett piece shares Greinke’s process in getting diagnosed, and also some of his coping mechanisms. Its an honest look at the new Dodger, and insightful. Good read.
This very short Brian T Smith piece gives just a quick look into the new Astros Carlos Pena and Rick Ankiel. Pena ribs Ankiel about the end of his pitching career, and Ankiel returns the favor about Pena’s strikeouts.
Lastly, is this Paul Hoynes piece from earlier in the week about the Michael Bourn signing in Cleveland. It is interesting because of the glowing remarks Scott Boras makes about the Indians- something he hasn’t done in a long time. Of course, the team made him look good and bailed him out with Bourn, but the Indians have made a turn in their development. And while the Tigers will be tough to beat, the Indians could be a team that could surprise a lot of fans this year. Read this piece, and hear more about Bourn and his fit with Cleveland and manager Terry Francona.
