It’s great news when one of the biggest stories of the day revolves around a player getting a haircut. And while some have compared Giants Ace Tim Lincecum to K.D. Lang, I think he now has a little Peter Parker. Hopefully, for Giants fans he is able to transform into Spiderman with his herky-jerky pitching motion and send that ball to the catcher like one of Spidey’s webs. It was time Timmy- nicely done.
These last couple of weeks, really since the first of the year, most players have been gearing up and finding their routines. If they spent much time last year on the DL, the team may be more involved than usual. And part of the a manager preparing for the season is finding out how his guys are doing. New Rockies manager Walt Weiss went to check in on Troy Tulowitski, and found that the star shortstop looks great according to this Troy E. Renck piece. That is good news for Rockies Fans who may need something special to cheer about this season.
And as players are preparing everywhere, this piece from Scott Cacciola shows how Yankees fans in the Tampa area are prepping for spring training- by trying to get Derek Jeter’s autograph. With his home nearby, and his rehab from ankle surgery in full swing, fans are getting up and standing in line outside of the complex in hopes that today he might stop. This is Jeter’s time, and so he doesn’t need to interact if he doesn’t want to. What is interesting are how the team handles the fans- just in case- to protect that player but also to make any chance of getting an autograph easier and more likely. Its obvious that if it could become a mob scene, the player isn’t getting out of his car. The team provides security. But besides the fans waiting, are also the media types trying to get any insight, any kind of news for the fans still in New York. The media waits not far from these fans. And its doubtful either will get much.
