Established in 2009, The PitCCh In Foundation (PIF) was created by New York Yankee’s CC Sabathia and his wife Amber, to enrich the lives of inner city youth. The PIF, with the help of Sabathia’s mother and his dedicated group of volunteers, developed three signature programs to help teens raise their self-esteem through educational and athletic activities. Sabathia and his wife were both raise in the inner city and understand the challenges that go along with growing up in an environment that can break one’s spirit and motivation.
In partnership with North Vallejo Little League, The PIF established the first of three programs, developing the All-Star Baseball Clinic introducing baseball to a new generation of young girls and boys. This once a y ear clinic consists of drill stations to teach and develop an understanding of the sport.
The second program is the Youth Back Pack program, which first began in the Vallejo City Unified School District in California. The goal of this program is to provide children with everything they need to start the school year.
The CC Christmas Caravan is the third signature program, established by The PIF, to enrich the Holiday season for families across the US. Projects have included the renovation of an support to a Foster Home and Infant Nursery, a Youth Holiday Christmas Party and a holiday excursion for challenged teens.
The PitCCh In Foundation started the CC Challenge in 2011 and now serves as the primary fundraiser for the foundation. This annual event is an “Amazing Race” type adventure through New York City’s Central Park consisting of 32 teams made up of four to five members. Each team is given a duffle bag of supplies to complete the racecourse while following a series of hidden clues to solve puzzles, find actors with clues, and push through a series of physical tests.
