Newly signed Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino, along side his wife Melissa, began the Shane Victorino Foundation in 2010. The SVF is dedicated to providing opportunities to underprivileged youth as well as providing these children with educational, recreational and wellness programs.

The Foundation’s first project pledged $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia to restore their Nicetown location. The facility was renamed the “Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club,” making it one of three clubs named in honor of an MLB player.

Each year, the Foundation hosts an All-Star Celebrity Fashion Show as well as a Celebrity Dinner and Golf Tournament. Both events spotlight players and their wives along with other sports personalities and entertainers.

Because of his outstanding leadership, character and involvement with the community, Victorino was awarded the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award (2008) and the Branch Rickey Award (2011),
