Astros and the AL West

TR Sullivan has written a nice piece about the differences between the AL and the NL and what it may mean to the Houston Astros who switch leagues in this coming season.  Sullivan gets Angels Manager Mike Scioscia to make the case that it is the American League that actually requires more strategy.  But, Sullivan’s piece is the first insight into how the Astros fans are going to have to look at their team- and at the game of baseball- going forward.

What is nice for the Astros, who have been basement dwellers the last couple of years is that they aren’t giving up a strong position in their own league to join the AL West.  They have been rebuilding the last few years, and so are starting with young players and a new manager as they enter the American League.  They can grow from this point into a competitive team without having to rework the team that they are.  This is a good time for the Astros.  There is only one direction for them to go and that is up!
