November 16, 1988 - Oakland A’s outfielder Jose Canseco is named the AL MVP by a unanimous vote after becoming the first player in major league history to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in the same season. This feat, along with every other achievement in his career, has since been tainted by Canseco’s admission of rampant drug use throughout his career.
