Mitch Albom writes about the Tigers’ inability to score, and there seeming ability to lose the World Series despite having what appeared to be a great offense and some lights out pitching. And while I could probably point to how perhaps the Giants quality pitching was much better at finding the holes in the Tigers line-up, the thing is that hitter like Miguel Cabrera is good enough to make the needed adjustments. He isn’t a guy who has holes in his swing. He is that good. But perhaps, instead of thinking through what was coming in the form of the Giants pitching, he was busy thinking about an MVP, he was busy thinking about a Triple-crown.
That might be a little harsh towards Miguel Cabrera- he is arguably the best hitter in baseball. If you ever have the chance to see him take batting practice- do it. It is a clinic in hitting. But the Tigers- on paper- are better than the Giants. But that isn’t how this series is playing out. The Tigers just don’t seem to know it. Perhaps they are still celebrating beating the Yankees. Perhaps they are still celebrating getting to the World Series after trailing in their division most of the season. Perhaps tonight, they will wake up and put up some fight. It may be too late. But, it is baseball. And we all can hope that the series doesn’t go quite the way it seems it is going.
