Baltimore outfielder Nick Markakis and his wife, Christina started the Right Side Foundation to give back to the community and improve the lives of distressed children throughout the State of Maryland. Through the platform of baseball, Nick and Christina have been able to impact thousands of young lives and their families through programming, investing in community groups/initiatives and developing strategic partnerships according to the Foundation’s website, www.rightsidefoundation.org.
Foundation events include annual fundraising races (both a 5K & 1-mile fun walk) and “Fun for 21″ program which allows 21 children to enjoy the fun of being a child and take their minds off the obstacles in their lives. The Foundation reaches out to a different community each month to bring 21 kids to a wide array of events, ranging from a museum trip to an Orioles’ game.
Nick and Christina continue to stay involved in the Maryland community and make a positive impact through the Right Side Foundation as they strive to improve the lives of youth each and every day. Whether it be a surprise holiday shopping trip for a special Maryland family (pictured here) or bringing Foundation youth to an Orioles’ game, Nick and Christina definitely are positively impacting the Maryland community through their charity.
