Ralph Houk, or The Major to some, passed away yesterday, bringing the number of losses the Yankees have suffered in the past two weeks to three. (Those are losses off the field, not on of course.) I honestly didn’t know too much about Houk other than he was the manager during the terrible 60’s years, and left when Steinbrenner bought the team. He of course, was also the Yankees manager during their 1961 and 1962 World Series winning campaigns too. This Bill Madden obituary fills in the other details of a man who lead troops in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Rest in Peace, Mr. Houk.
