Quick Thoughts from the AS Game

Loved the cheers that Torii Hunter got, hated the boos the rest of the AL squad got.  I mean, aren’t they there to cheer on the AL Team?  The contrast between Hunter though and Alex Rodriguez was marked, but Ridriguez seemed to take it all in stride. The crowd responded though when Vlad Guerrero was introduced, cheering almost as loudly as they had for Torii Hunter.

Thought the tribute to George Steinbrenner was nice, as was the tribute to Bob Shephard.  I’m not sure if the rest of the country understood that one, but hopefully they liked it.

Speaking of the passing of Steinbrenner, ESPN did some great coverage of that today.  Listening to Derek Jeter speak about his was wonderful.  Hearing Yogi Berra open up about why he left the Yankees and never spoke to him all those years was poignant.  But Dan LeBatard is an idiot if he doesn’t think Steinbrennar was a key to the development of sports as he was.  Though George might have made athletes rich, and he may have begun the trend of making them stars, he was also the biggest champion of the fans who cheered for those athletes. Too bad there aren’t more owners like him.

I’m liking the conversations FOX is getting.  Usually I am not a fan.  But the conversation between Joe Mauer and Andy Pettitte about how to signal the pitches was fantastic stuff.

Well, that’s all I am throwing up there, though it is only the 5th inning, so I may be back.  Just please make sure you share your thoughts too.
