Today is the celebration of the birth of our country.  Also, as the legend goes, is the birthday of George Steinbrenner. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the impact his ownership has had on baseball and as this Wallace Mathews piece points out with the help of Bill Madden, you couldn’t write the complete history of baseball without a prominent mention of Steinbrenner.

The Boss needs to be in the Hall of Fame.  The argument against points to his mis-deeds that got him banned from baseball, but he was re-instated, and therefore should be included.  No Hall plaque needs to say the guy was perfect- it just needs to show how he contributed to the game.  And no owner has contributed in the last 40 years the way Steinbrenner has.
