I, of course, have to bring this up.  I must admit, I didn’t see enough of the game for this man to annoy me- but apparently he annoyed a number of people.  During Monday nights Nationals/Braves game, a fan sitting just off home plate in the first row decided to stand and sit for every pitch.  He felt he had a good eye on the plate, and was making safe and out calls that somehow were always pro- Atlanta.  This Craig Calcaterra piece has a bit more on it.

First, I have read a number of pieces on this guy- though this is the only one that actually reads like a piece of news.  Second, it was Strasburg’s worst start- that could have been because he faced a good team in the Braves, or perhaps it was because some annoying guy was standing up waving his arms wildly and yelling things.

My thoughts on this range far and wide.  First, I think in college basketball they folks sitting behind the basked are often doing very distracting things.  It is part of being a professional athlete, and something Strasburg may have to adapt to.

But, as a fan watching or sitting around that guy- well I have no interest in that.  I don’t want to see him, I don’t want to listen to him.  Usually, the price of those seats precludes that sort of behavior, but I have sat in many ballparks and there are fans like this guy who need the show to be about them for the entire night.  That isn’t fun.  I didn’t pay to see them.  I paid to see the guys on the field- perhaps even Stephen Strasburg- play the game to the best of their abilities.  Am I wrong here?  If you want to wave for the camera- or yell something for a bit- fine, but do you really need to do it for 3 hours?

I need some perspective here- can anyone help me out?
