While we spend a lot of time being preoccupied with debates about who is better, Albert Pujols or Ryan Howard, or Albert Pujols or Alex Rodriguez- there is one guy that often gets left out of the debate. In some ways its because of the two teams he has played for, in others it is because of some off-field troubles that have stolen his the limelight away from his on field talents.
But Michael Rosenberg’s piece on Miguel Cabrera serves as a reminder just how talented he is. I remember watching him two years ago in spring training take batting practice. He hit ten line drives to left, then ten liners to center, then ten liners to right. Then he came back and did it again, though this time with power. In Roserberg’s article, Jim Leyland and others talk about his ability to hit the other way with power- and remember he is not doing this in a bandbox. Commerica park, his home ballpark, is one of the largest parks in play today.
Miguel Cabrera is a star- even if we forget it every now and then.
