1934 - Hall of Famer Lefty Grove becomes the first pitcher to give up six doubles in one inning, including five in a row.
1966 - Trailing 4-3 late in the game, the Twins explode for five home runs in one inning, a Major League record.
Deaths
1995 - Cuban shortstop Zoilo Versalles who in 1965 won the AL MVP while leading the league in total bases, and brought the Twins to their first World Series, where they would lose to the Dodgers in seven games.
1997 - Thornton Lee, a lefthanded pitcher who posted a career ERA+ of 119 and in 1941 led the AL in ERA, CG and WHIP.
Births
1951 - Dave Parker, a feared slugger who twice led the league in IBB and was the 1978 NL MVP.
1974 - Randy Winn, who has accumulated 6,727 PA’s despite spending almost 2/3’s of his time at the corner outfield positions, where more than his 99 career OPS+ is generally required.
