This long Shawn Windsor piece tells the story of the great hitter, Dmitri Young, and of the guy who struggled with his life choices when he stopped hitting.  Its the story of a father who wanted his kid to succeed so badly that he forgot to make the whole thing fun.  Its also the story of someone who didn’t honor his talent.  But Dmitri is back in baseball and has a much more positive outlook on it all, and he is sharing what he learned with some young players.

Its really worth a read this week because in some ways you see Hanley Ramirez in the story.  In some ways you see Alex Rodriguez in the story.  Its hard to know what was missing from Dmitri’s father when he was a kid, but yet you just have to wonder how things could be different if he dad just explained the reason he was driving his son so strongly. It can serve as a cautionary tale for any dad with a talented son- and its just a heart warming story in the end.
