Today’s Tuesday Trivia Prize is a copy of Cooperstown Hall of Fame Players, a beautiful coffee table type book about the greats in Cooperstown. To win simply leave the correct answer in the comment box below. This contest is open to anyone who has not won in the month of April.

Trivia Question: Losing 20-games in a season has, in recent years, become a pretty big marker to avoid. Yet, it seems it wasn’t always that way. Pud Galvin lost 20 games in a season 10 times and still made it into the Hall of Fame- though it should be noted in at least two of those years, he started over 70 games.

Steve Carlton even lost 20 games in 1973. Carlton is more famous for another pitching accomplishment the year before, though. Can you tell me what Carlton did in 1972?

He did win the Cy young, with 27 wins- but that isn’t quite what I was looking for. What made his 27 wins so remarkable?

I’ll keep this question going until we get an answer, or until the end of the day- whichever comes first.

He won about half of his team’s total wins & finished with an ERA under 2.

There you go! He won 27 games on a team that only won 59- which if that isn’t the definition of a guy that makes everyone around him better, then I don’t know what is.
