Pat Neshak gets the whole thing. He collects sports cards- primarily hockey and baseball cards it seems from his website- but really anything- and will trade if follow his rules. He interacts with his fans, and as you can imagine that ensures that he has fans.
Well, a couple of days ago he tweeted the following on Twitter:
Gimme a shout during Batting Practice home/road if you have a shirt or jersey with my name I’ll try to toss you a ball
Don’t know if that is worth the cost of a Neshak jersey- but if you already have one- well- get out there!

Hmm you think he wouldn’t want to interact with fans after this.

Actually, he has been getting those requests for years- and he will tell you on his blog that they just go in the garbage. He will only sign his own cards- and will only do it if you offer something to trade, and you send a SASE.
He gets what it means to want an autograph- and I think he is doing his part to make sure everyone understands what they are asking for.
