Opening Night into Opening Day

I am struggling this morning with trying to decide what to write.  It is so easy to make so much out of last nights game- there are between 30-50 reporters that have already done it- and yet as Derek Jeter is found of saying, its just one game.  Does it mean the Red Sox have the Yankees number at last?  No.  Does it mean Josh Beckett or CC Sabathia or the Yankee bullpen are washed up?  No. Does it mean that the Red Sox really have cornered the market on defense?  Not that either.   It was one more reminder that anything can happen at Fenway park.  It was one more very exciting game in this storied rivalry.

Today though is more excitement.  Fans in Flushing get to see the Mets museum. The Nationals will have a first pitch by President Obama. They begin the day in first place, but will not play a losing team from last season until May 17th, which doesn’t bode well for signs the franchise is turning around.

My Reds will begin serving Sushi at the ballpark- its been available in Cleveland for years, and apparently the Queen city is catching up.  Additionally, the Reds have finally figured out that there should be a real advantage to becoming a season ticket holder, and have made their club open to anyone who purchased season tickets.    For a team that hasn’t sold out, and could be either a contender or an also-ran, giving the fans some reason to commit to the entire season is essential.  The parade will being around 10:30 am, with 200 vehicles it is a tradition very nearly as old as baseball.

**** I am having some technical problems- this post will be updated shortly.
