1961 – A proposal by the Pacific Coast League to use a designated hitter in lieu of the pitcher is rejected by the Professional Baseball Rules Committee by an 8-1 margin.
1995 – 47,536 fans attend the first ever game at Coors Field, a game which is played by replacement players due to the strike.
2004 – After defeating the Devil Rays in Tokyo, Kevin Brown becomes the second major league pitcher to defeat all thirty teams, following Al Leiter.

Births
1920 – Dave Koslo, who in 1956 as a pitcher for the Giants started the most games in the NL (35), losing the most (19), facing the most batters (1136), allowing the most hits (251) and most runs (107).
