1946 – During a game in Birmingham, Alabama, Edward Klep, the first white player in Negro League Baseball, is removed from the lineup by police and told to change into civilian clothes and sit in the “whites only” section of the ballpark.
2001 – During an exhibition game, Diamondback pitcher Randy Johnson’s fastball hits and kills a dove flying in front of home plate.

2009 – Hall of Famer George Kell, who in 1944 garnered MVP votes despite posting a 75 OPS+ an grounding into a league leading 28 double plays
