The Rangers sale may not be getting done as quickly as anyone may have thought. The current owner, Tom Hicks, has borrowed so much money against the club that the creditors now really get to decide how much the team will sell for. That is a problem. The Rangers- and MLB for that matter- can’t have this hanging over their head for another season. The Rangers were looking to be the feel good story of the year near the end last year, putting some pressure on the Angels, and if they are still in financial lock-down mode that isn’t going to help their pursuit this year. If the creditors force the team into bankruptcy that will devalue all MLB franchises. It could also make some financial records public that have never been made public before.
This story is only going to get bigger I suspect.
Off, hopefully to see the Phillies and Yankees, though the might be a last minute change of plans there.
