There are getting to be so many of these ‘get to know…’ pieces out there, and so few of them are any good.  This year there should be plenty about retiring Manager Bobby Cox, that is for sure.  Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa will command their share as well.  But every now and then you find out that gets to the heart of where someone came from, and the writing is such that I feel I have to point you towards it.  This Bob Ryan piece gets to what makes Tony LaRussa interesting, not what makes him great.  It dissects the things he is known for- particularly his use of pitchers- and lets you draw your own conclusions.  Very interesting way to start the day.
