Since we seem to be on a pitching trend today, I thought I would throw out a piece from Richard Justice about the Astros signing Matt Lindstrom and Brandon Lyon, that latter which they overpaid for. Now, I believe the piece was written in defense of the signings, but I don’t quite see how they can justify the money to Lyon. He isn’t outstanding in any area- so the Astros effectively over-paid for average to help a team that isn’t going to win a lot this season anyway. Just throwing money down the toilet.
Still, this piece is worth the read because it gets to the heart of how players are evaluated. Its interesting that Ed Wade only shows three scouting reports. I am betting the others weren’t as good- which makes the signing even more questionable.
Very worth the read.
