Just a quick post about the Mets Mule named Mettle that apparently strutted up and down the sidelines at Shea back in 1979, as this Ken Belson BATS post points out. Just a little piece of Mets history that I didn’t know about. Maybe the Wilpons and Doubledays got rid of Mettle because they planned on being just as stubborn and didn’t need the competition.
