Mark McGwire’s younger brother has written a book about his own relationship with steroids as well as his part in introducing his famous brother to them. Its basically a tell-all by a family member who has been disowned, and after reading this John Shea piece on Jay McGwire, I feel a little bit sickened. I mean, if Jay wants to have a relationship with his brother, why would he do such a thing? And if he thinks its the right thing to do- why doesn’t he say that over and over so that Shea has no choice but to write it.
Instead, the younger McGwire sounds like he is just trying to get attention. Maybe Mark McGwire has continued to lie about what he used and when, but do the details matter?
Steve Phillips was on local talk radio yesterday, and as he pointed out cheating is cheating, the details don’t matter. McGwire cheated. Does it matter how many times and how? The question is how is he different today, and would he choose to do it again?
That’s enough on that rant.
