Predicting Outcomes on Superbowl Sunday

Just for fun, I thought I would look and see which state had produced more MLB players since 1900 as a way of forecasting which team would win the Superbowl today.  Of course, there is no relation, since even the players on each team weren’t born in the state they represent today.  Still, here we go.

Since 1900, 310 players (or 2.1%) have come out of the state of Indiana and made it to the major leagues.  In 2009, though, only 2 major league players born in Indiana made their debut- Jordan Schafer (ATL) and Wes Whisler (CWS).  Funny thing, in 2009 only two from Louisiana made their debut as well- Tommy Manzella (HOU) and Xavier Paul (LAD).   It looks pretty even there.  But, since 1900, only 213 (or 1.4%)  of all major leaguers have come from Louisiana.

Famous Hoosiers: Mordecai Three-Fingers Brown (HOF), Max Carey (HOF), Carl Erskine, Gil Hodges, Chuck Klein (HOF), Don Larsen, Don Mattingly,  Sam Rice (HOF), Edd Roush (HOF), Amos Rusie (HOF), Sam Thompson(HOF)

Famous Lousianians: Joe Adcock, Albert Belle, Willard Brown (HOF), Bill Dickey (HOF), Ron Guidrey, Ted Lyons (HOF), Mel Ott(HOF), Andy Petttite, Ben Sheets, Vida Blue, Vernon Wells

Looks like Indy wins with the number of Hall of Famers.

And Happy Birthday to Burt Hooton, Endy Chavez, Scott Feldman, Carney Lansford and Seth McClung.

Now, go make some guacamole!
