1962 – Bob Feller and Jackie Robinson are voted in to the Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
1975 – Ralph Kiner exceeds the 75% threshold by one vote to gain entry to the Hall of Fame on his final attempt.

1989 – George Case, a 3 time All-Star who led the American League in stolen bases each year from 1939 to 1943
Births
1928 - Chico Carrasquel, the first Hispanic to appear in an All-Star Game
1970 – Alan Embree, who has spent 16 years in the big leagues despite owning a career ERA+ of 95
1985 – Jeff Samardzija, the former Notre Dame standout in football and baseball
