1946 – In the newly formed Liga de Beisbol Profesional de Venezuela, Magallenes defeats Vargas 3-2 in 17 innings. While 17 inning games do happen from time to time, it is not often that both pitchers, in this case Alex Carrasquel and Roy Welmaker, go the distance.
1966 – Ted Williams, the last player to hit .400, is elected to the Hall of Fame with 282 of possible 302 votes.
2006 – Less than three months after resigning, Theo Epstein returns to the Boston Red Sox to resume his duties as the team’s General Manager.

1964 – Ozzie Guillen, the always entertaining Manager (and former shortstop) of the Chicago White Sox.
