1950 – Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller suggests he should receive a pay cut after a disappointing season. The Indians oblige and decrease his salary $20,000 to $45,000.
1973 – The Red Sox sign Orlando Cepeda to be their Designated Hitter, the first player ever signed with the intent to play exclusively this position.
2002 – Scott Rolen re-signs with the Phillies for the team’s largest single-season salary ever… $8.6 million. A lot has changed since then.
