The New Wrigley?

The Boston Red Sox have done a tremendous amount to remodeling to Fenway park to make it as lucrative for the team as any new stadium.  Winning of course also helps.  The Chicago Cubs new owners clearly are taking a page from the Red Sox playbook by looking to expand the third base side of Wrigley field, and creating a courtyard type area that will be filled with restaurants, and other concessions according to this Dave van Dyck piece.  (The accompanying picture says a lot about the changes as well.)

Wrigley will always be Wrigley it seems, and very little will be done to change the main part of the stadium, but between now and it seems 2014, the 100ths anniversary of Wrigley Field a fair amount will be done to upgrade the amenities.  Bathroom, particularly, will be enlarged and enhanced so no one will have to remember 1913 amenities of that nature any longer.

Its good solution to the ballpark dilemma which will keep the long held tradition of Wrigley without the need to raise ticket prices exorbitantly and without the need for seat licenses. The upgrades will be done slowly, over the next three seasons, so they are complete by 2014- so their will be no great changes as time passes and since many of the changes don’t involve the playing field, the team will never have to play elsewhere.

Also in the piece, there are still no plans for any Friday night games nor a jumbotron- so a nice quiet day at the park on an sunny summer Friday afternoon is not just a thing dreams are made of.
