Pedroia at Short?

Could happen.  Peter Gammons has reported that the Red Sox asked if Pedroia might be willing to move to short… his actual natural position.  He was an All-American at Arizona State as a short-stop.  Its not set in stone yet, but it does give the Red Sox some options, since for some strange reason this off-season there are quite a few second basemen to be had.  It could be Orlando Hudson’s lucky day.  Additionally, there is some talk about the Sox acquiring Brandon Phillips from the Reds.  As a Reds fan that doesn’t make me happy- but if I were a Red Sox fan that could make me very very happy.

Sometimes Gammons reports rumors, but this story includes quotes from Pedroia.  He hasn’t been told he will move, he has just been asked if would be willing to.  The Sox have also contacted Adam Everett and Adam Kennedy, so they seem to be just exploring all their options.  You don’t really want to mess with a good thing, and Pedroia at second has been that.

Additionally, he is on vacation with Andre Ethier.
