So some low level front office employee has told Bob Elliot that Roy Halladay will accept a trade to the Yankees, that is a far cry from Roy Halladay is going to the Yankees. It also is a far cry from the idea that Halladay is not going to play for the Red Sox.

First, of course Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos says he would trade within his division- that’s where the teams with something to trade are located and the expecially the ones that will drive the price higher.  The reality though is that the price would have to be high for that to make sense to the Blue Jays long-term.  Saying that the Jays aren’t interested in talking to the AL East teams would be like Scott Boras telling the world that one of his clients doesn’t want to play for them.  Bidding would just sort of die.

Second, Halladay has probably approved a lot of teams. Whoever blabbed just isn’t privy to the list.

Third, the Yankees only want Halladay if he might actually go to the Red Sox. Nothing that I have seen written actually says the Yankees are interested in Halladay, it all says Halladay is interested in the Yanks.

If you didn’t read yesterday’s Tony Massarotti ’s article, you should.  Its going to be a while before the Halladay deal is done, and until then believe nothing that is written. Its all meant to sell papers.
