Ahhhhh… we have indeed reached the beginning of the end of the 2009 season. There may be two more games, but no more after that. Indeed, there may only be one more game, and that is really the only thing we can be sure.
What we do know that sometime later this week that final moment will come, the end of the World Series. If the Yankees are to win it, better for both teams if they can do it at home. If the Phillies are to win it, well, it doesn’t matter where they do it- after all they will be the first National League team to repeat in 34 years, and that is some feat. Tyler Kepner writes a piece about the last moment of the World Series over the years. Its interesting how we do remember who is on the mound better than who strikes out- unless of course its Carlos Beltran.
Last night was clearly not the Yankees night. Burnett got off track early, and perhaps once he hit Victorino he couldn’t focus on pitching anymore. Once AJ gets off track significantly, he has a hard time getting back on. Hitting Victorino was a sign he was off track. He once broke a teammates hand in high school when he was trying to throw as hard as he could while fooling around. AJ doesn’t pitch again.
Now its up to the master of the Yankees post-season Andy Pettitte, and the brilliant mind of Pedro Martinez. Can’t wait to see Game 6, in the New Yankee stadium.
