Richard Sandomir writes a beautiful piece about the quiet hero and the current Yankee Captain. Though they share similar hits totals, those numbers come at very different places in their respective lives. This is why the numbers matter. The stats reach through generations and transcend time. Its nice every now and then to nod ones head to that fact, as Sandomir so nicely does.
