Aaron Boone, who underwent open-heart surgery only  a few months ago, is set to re-join the Astros when the rosters expand next week.  Aaron, as you will hear from just about anyone in baseball, is truly one of the good guys, so if you can, take a moment to watch some Astros baseball just for that very reason.  (I know, that would have to be the only reason.)

Andy Pettite passed Lefty Gomez on the career wins by a Yankee with his dominant performance last night.  Yankee fans have to have exhaled that despite all the stories about this upstart Texas team, the bombers can still show just how dominant they are.  It looks for certain that the Yankees are the team to beat to get to the World Series- but of course anything can happen.

Victor Martinez wore his first baseman’s glove last night to catch Tim Wakefield’s kunckleball.  He didn’t allow one passed ball, so it must have worked… the Sox won, and Wakefield went 7 innings in his return from the DL.  Brad Penny will be released today to make room for Billy Wagner.

The Blue Jays played one of those games that you just don’t see often.  This Ken Fidlin story will fill in the details, but a rookie pitcher had a no-hitter going through 5 innings, but had thrown nearly 100 pitches.  Doubtful to make it to 9th that way.  And three different umpires ended up calling balls and strikes because of injuries during the game.
