By now you may have heard a little about this game Sunday in the California Leage (AA) between the Lake Elsinore Storm (affiliate of the Padres) and the High Desert Mavericks (affilliate of the Mariners), where the Storm beat the Mavericks by a score of 33-18.
The box score for both teams contained 51 runs, and 58 hits and it only took 4 hours and 10 minutes- which is super fast for a game with so many baserunners. (The Sunday night Mets/Yanks game on ESPN took 3 hours 38 minutes and ended with a 4-2 score.
By the way, yesterdays final score between these two teams was 5-1.
In Paul Depodesta’s blog, he points out that not only was the score so high, but at the end of eight innings, Lake Elsinore was leading 28-14, and they had hit only 1 home run to that point. 28 runs scored, and only one home run was hit. (Apparently, the Mavericks made 5 plays that ruled errors, my guess there were a few more that should have been ruled errors as well.) Of course, in the last inning of the game, the Storm hit 4 more home runs.
I can’t tell you how much I wish I was there to keep score at that game!
