It just hit me this morning, as I was pondering Livan Hernandez as the 5th Mets starter, that perhaps someone in the Mets front office was concerned that if there was not a Hernandez on the roster that the team would go back to its losing ways of 2003 and 2004. Remember in 2005, Anderson Hernandez occupied some time on both the 25 and the 40 man roster, and well there is El Duque who spent some time on both the roster and the DL for 06, 07 and 08……. Perhaps, the DL wasn’t enough Hernandez mojo to prevent the collapses?
My theory falls apart when you look back at the Mets World Series year of 2000, though if Rickey Henderson was hispanic, wouldn’t his last name be Hernandez? Think I’m on to something.
