So don’t care David Well’s opinion about Joe Torre, would rather have to read one more story about how Manny Ramirez’s agent says he will get an 8 year contract before spring training. The good news is that in only a couple of weeks, these guys will be able to fill the newspapers with stories about baseball again. But, last night as I was driving I was listening to ESPN radio and a caller called in a made a brilliant point. In all this Joe Torre mess, where is the Captain of the Yankees. While I know Jeter is close to Joe Torre, why isn’t he issuing a statement. It could be the “While I respect Joe Torre, and will reserve judgement until I can read the book, I am saddened that clubhouse matters have been made public, and I stand behind my teammates both then and now. We have a championship to win.” Its not hard, but he needs to show to his teammates that he is with them, not with any of the reported nastiness that is in the papers. Just like when people were booing ARod three years ago, Jeter will do nothing. And for a captain, that is disappointing. I am doubtful Varitek would have done the same thing under similar circumstances. Thoughts? Share them on the message board.
Now, in announcing the Awards yesterday, their was a mistake here on the website. Though he was included in the newsletter release, Vance Wilson was not included in the list here in yesterday’s blog post. It was an html error that should have been caught, but after several days of looking at this stuff, was not. Congratulations to Vance!
Lastly, we need to follow up on Tuesday’s Trivia Contest. As several Met fans pointed out, “everyone knows that Bud Harrelson beat up Pete Rose in the 1973 NLCS” and I think its true that anyone over the age of 35 who follows the Mets knows it, but it was Chris K who was our winner and will receive 50 free cards from CustomSportsCards.com. Remember we have a trivia contest every Tuesday, and we are planning on new prizes each week.
