With a slow news day going on, I thought I would just post a few connections to some interesting blogs around the league.  First, to get to the Joe Torre book, is an interesting post by Tyler Kepner where he discusses how Joe Torre used to remind Cashman that numbers don’t tell the whole story, that baseball has a heartbeat.

Ken Davidoff wants to hear your stories about how ticket prices at new Citi-field compare to the prices at Shea.  My experience was that after having a pair of the best seats in the building (IMHO) in section 2 on the Mezzanine level, and a Tuesday-Friday package to boot (which guaranteed one game from each series), I was going to have to purchase more games or significantly less games in a much worse location.  I never figured out the cost per ticket…. I just didn’t like the ticket package options which might mean i see two games in a series against the Nationals and none against someone I may not have a chance to see otherwise.  The price went up not necessarily on the per ticket price, but on the amount of commitment one had to make.  Still, if you have a different experience, let Ken know.

A little Phillies news from David Murphy.  Sounds like Adam Eaton will not be with the team in the near future.  Not sure how that will play itself out, but will be interested to see.  The Phillies  are also looking a Ty Wiggington, and a couple of days ago I saw a report that the Mets were too.  Also, the Phillies are giving some consideration to Rich Aurilia as a backup at 2nd and 3rd.  I would never have believed that Aurilia might have a job before Orlando Hudson.

Curt Schilling speculates about the Red Sox signing Varitek.  It needs to be said, though I like his take, he has thrown out a number that is just random.  Every GM has to pay close attention to the dollar figure they offer a player because it will affect what they have to pay the next guy.  $8 million for Tek seems like a lot to me.  $4 million with incentives maybe…. but there just aren’t that many teams that are likely to pay him more. Still, interesting to hear Curt’s review of his former Captain.

I got a couple of correct answers on yesterday’s trivia question, but no return email addresses so the prize could be awarded, so I am going to keep the question open for a few more hours to give those fans time write back in and include their email addresses with the correct answer.!
