The meetings finished up today, and the big winners might be the Mets.  They were certainly happy guys last night after acquiring JJ Putz for the teams spare parts was a great move.  This morning they acquired hard throwing Rocky Cherry from the Orioles who was left unprotected in the Rule V draft.  Now the Mets have to keep him on their major league roster all season, but the guy is good enough as a role player in the bullpen to fill a hole left by one of the guys traded in the Putz deal.  So we spoke about needs a couple of days ago, the Mets filled many of their bullpen needs.  Much different bullpen then the one that we saw blow up in September.

Don’t really believe that the three team deal for Peavy is off today.  The back story is that someone from the Padres leaked it too soon, and Jim Hendry was mad because he needed to trade Jason Marquis and teams dropped their offer once they realized that the if the Cubs were going to acquire Peavy they absolutely had to shed the payroll of Jason Marquis.  Saying its off is just cover, though if Marquis isn’t traded soon, look for Kevin Towers to find another team to work with.  Also, if Burnett doesn’t end up with the Cubs they could get back in it.

Really was an interesting few days, with so many deals in the works.  The other really interesting thing is how little we saw Scott Boras who only made a couple of very brief appearances considering the number of players he was here to market. Though ESPN is saying that Kevin Towers must be the most disappointed GM, I would throw Dan O’dowd into the mix as well. The Rockies need to make some moves, or they are going to have a very rough season.
