So KRod is a Met! Finally something big has happened and its the one move that could happen without a bunch of moves happening. I was speaking with someone from the Mets last night and we had a long conversation about the difference between needs and wants. A closer and 1 starter were Mets needs going into this winter meetings. The wants include an upgraded second baseman and left fielder. With the closer taken care of, the starting pitcher is next to tackle. After that, if Manny Ramirez is still out there, look for a little yammering on that subject. Not a huge fan of Manny but if the deal was short enough I could live with it. Still, I don’t see that helping the clubhouse, nor do I see the Mets getting that far. Also, it seems to be the general consensus that Castillo will have a better year then he had last year. That should help how the NY fans think about him. We’ll see.
I also heard a story last night about the playoffs. A friend of mine is one of the advance scouts for the Dodgers and after following the Cubs for the last two weeks of the season, really schooled the Dodgers on the Cubs flaws. He even told the Dodgers players how to break Carlos Zambrano’s concentration, and the “tells” for knowing when they were beginning to get to him. At the end of the series, the Dodgers players specifically really credited these two scouts for doing such great work, honoring them is ways few scouts ever get honored. The best part of the story is that one of them had been a part of the Cubs organization for years prior to the 2008 season. Got to take care of your own.
Should have one more post tonight, but if you have any questions about your team get them in. Some teams haven’t been so visible, but I will at least try to find out hrough the rumor mill just what has been going on.
