We arrived at the Bellagio last night and immediately began running into people. While it was hard to find folks last year at the Opryland hotel, this year should be nearly impossible unless they want to get found. There is a tiny lobby area, and of course huge expanses of slot machines. So I quickly understood it was all luck at running into an agent that I knew right off the bat. After returning to meet a friend in the lobby I passed Jeff Wilpon and Tommy Lasorda, so many of the faces have arrived. Nothing like an extra day in Vegas to inspire a little extra travel for work.
For those of you who are new from last year, the blog will be a little irregular during this week. That will also be compounded by the time change as well. I will post more often, but at odd times, so I hope you can stick with me. My goal for the week is to not only give you a sense of what the place looks like, but also how this all plays out. This year the minor leagues and major leagues are at two different hotels, so there will be some traveling back and forth. The minor leagues, and the trade show are at the Las Vegas Hilton, while the Major League stuff is at the Bellagio. Monday for the minor leagues begins with a Business seminar, and luckily I will get to attend a few parts of this morning. Meanwhile today at the Bellagio, reporters will circle the lobby trying to find out what just came out of the meetings last night between Omar Minaya and Brian Cashman and various players and agents. Also, at some point Scott Boras will make a huge appearance, which is true Las Vegas spectacle. So, that’s all you get until a little later in the day. Once I get a handle on the rumors that are out there, you will hear them too.
