So the Reds are interested in Jemaine Dye, a right-handed bat to go with their lefties of Joey Votto and Jay Bruce wouldn’t be  bad fit for the   Reds except for the money issue, though he still is in the ballpark of what Adam Dunn made last year, and Dye can actually throw compared to Dunn.  I have to say I am a little worried about the Reds of next year, but I am super-curious as to the White Sox.   Kenny Williams is a mastermind at putting together a quality team out of nothing, but he is ridding the south-siders of some pretty big parts to quickly reconstruct from.  Next year could be the White Sox year for the taking, though, in the AL Central.

The part of this John Fay article that worries me though isn’t the taking on of Jermaine Dye’s contract, its the front office guys that Walt Jocketty has brought in.  If it isn’t the picture of the old boys club, I don’t know what is.  Along with ex-Mariners GM Bill Bavasi who has done nothing in this game but carry around the Bavasi name and Cam Bonifay- ex Pirates GM who took over the Bucco’s in 1993, just as they went into the tank.  Fay writes about the right things the Reds are doing behind the scenes by investing in talent from the Dominican, but the old boy club that is forming doesn’t leave any room for innovation or new ideas.  Jocketty has been innovative and creative in his thinking in the past, I just hope the folks he surrounds himself with don’t indicate the disappearance of that talent.
