Game 7

I thought this would be a 7 game series, until about three days ago.  But here we are.  Dan Shaughnessey is the writer for Red Sox Nation.  He speaks of the heart of this team, the heart that came back in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees.  And the Red Sox are experienced, even with all their young players, they know how to win. But when Shaughnessey says don’t bet against the Sox, he is moving the team into the territory of the Yankees of the early decade.  Its a smugness that is unbecoming to the ex-underdog darling.  And yet it is natural, when playing a young team that hasn’t even had a winning season in the history of the franchise.  If the Sox pull this off, it will be because they are the better team, even if that “better” is in the area of heart, desire and experience, not actual baseball talent.  That being said it all comes down to tonight, and no one says it better than John Romano.  He says that while the Superbowl is the most watched, and the Kentucky Derby might be the most exciting 2 minutes, it is a game 7 that is the greatest in sports.  All the marbles are on the table.  Play or go home.  And MLB planned it well, even if they had no idea, with the new schedule allowing game 7 to be played on Sunday night.  As we wind down from the weekend, and gear up for the week, we can gather around the TV and watch each team fight and earn their place in the World Series.  And these two teams, having met 24 times already this season, will really show who is the better, stronger team.  All the marbles.

The problem with a game 7 though in the Championship Series is that the World Series has something to live up to…. wonder if the Phillies are ready for either of these teams.
