You are Fired! Or you should be…

I wrote a long entry on Thursday about the firing of Wayne Krivsky, something I still can’t believe.  Really the guy is good. Today, Bill Madden makes the case with a few more hard facts than I was able to find.  He does make Castelini sound a little crazy or whimsical or something.  In Castellini’s three-year ownership he has technically had 3 GM’s, but one was Jim Bowden whom he inherited and let go in less than 2 months of purchasing the team, and the second was Krivsky.  He got Jerry Narron as the manager, and Narron was let go in the middle of last season, and his replacement was really just interim until Dusty Baker, so he really is far from George Steinbrenner.  I stick by version that he just saw Jocketty as a name long associated with the game, and preferred that status to the name of a guy who fans didn’t recognize.  Yes, I do think the Reds can contend in the Central, and its a shame that if they do Jocketty will get all the credit, despite the talent coming from Krivsky’s key decisions.

The other point that Madden makes is about the Rangers, and he is right.  Washington is a good manager, tells it like it is, but spent much of last year realizing just how hard it is to be the man, as opposed to the guy that sits next to the man on the bench.  Texas GM Jon Daniels, however, has been in place long enough that the talent level on the field, particularly the pitching staff is clearly his responsibility.  Daniels should be on the hook for this Rangers team, who have started at 8 and 17.  The Rangers have had a tough schedule, but their overall sloppy play and bad pitching isn’t something anyone can feel good about.  The AL West, which has been tough the last couple of years is as vulnerable as ever, so the Rangers need to starting showing they can compete. New team President, Nolan Ryan at least has the tools to judge who is to blame. We will have to see what the week holds.

And while we are talking about firing, Bob Klapisch writes about a few jobs that might be in jeopardy in Queens.  I won’t add much to Klaps words other than to say he’s right on target.
