Ensberg in NYC?

I have really like Morgan Ensberg for a few years now.  I think he’s a tough guy and a good player, a little more then a utility guy but athletic enough that I figured he could be a Hinske type, though a little better on defense.  But this idea of him playing for New York should get his agent fired.  Why do I say that?  Doesn’t everyone want to be on the big stage even as a role player?  Having never met Ensberg, I can’t honestly say, but I suspect that  New York, and Yankee stadium in particular are going to be a bit much for this kid.  During Spring training in 2000, Ensberg along with  several other teammates, was held up at gunpoint at his minor league spring training hotel.  None of the players were hurt, but they were tied up with blankets over their heads and told that they were going to be shot.  The robbers took everything these kids had, but were eventually caught.  Nonetheless, Ensberg suffered some traumatic effects. The story was revisited in a 2006 ESPN the Mag article, which you need to be an subscriber to get.  The only online reference to it that I could find was this  MLB.com article where you need to scroll down past the Andy Pettite stuff.  From both though, you can see that Ensberg isn’t ready to forget or to be around crowds anything soon.  And New Yorkers isn’t the place to be if you are shaken up by strangers approaching you.  Sure, other players will help him out, and player security is top notch there, but its not the place where I would want to have to rebuild my career, not at all.  I wish him luck, but I think his agent isn’t very smart for not finding him a better opportunity where he could really focus on baseball, and leave the crowds behind. I will be rooting for Ensberg.  Hope he is the everyday first baseman, I really do.
