Well, I had to re-watch the news conference to try to decide what I was taking away from it, then, of course I had to read what everyone had to say about it too. In some ways, I have moved over towards believing Clemens, though I need more to understand how one guy says he injected him with Winstrol and another says it was just B-12. His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, was impressive, and knew from all the reading that he needed Roger not to seem defensive, which, unfortunately he was. Richard Sandomir writes a bit about the television show we are watching in all this, and does it well. Clemens behaved yesterday as he always has when he has grown impatient with the media, and that is why I move towards his side. He isn’t acting the way we want, he is acting as he always has…nothing out of character. Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle and one of those reporters Roger singled out yesterday seems to feel similar to me, yet he is one of the few reporters out there that does. The best run through sans opinion that I have read of this story comes from the New York Times. In order to believe him, I mean to really believe him, I need to be walked through it. I think we all do. Maybe we need to have some loophole so we can forgive him, and let this go. Again, the Commissioner of baseball could do that, but he is AWOL on this one. Looking forward to what won’t be said in front of Congress next week. Maybe by then we can know more.
